Sustainable retrofitting of printing presses for customized content

Mühltal, 15 August 2025 - Packaging is increasingly carrying individual and serialized print content. This is pushing static printers to their limits. At Labelexpo Europe 2025, REA Elektronik will be demonstrating how printing presses can be made fit for new requirements efficiently and sustainably. The motto of the specialist for industrial coding and marking, labeling technology and code verification: "Upgrade your existing press - Go Hybrid!" ("Give your printing press an upgrade - go hybrid!")

Flexibility is the be-all and end-all in marking. With targeted upgrades, print shops, contract packers and packaging manufacturers can make their machines fit for new requirements such as serialization, late stage customization or variable data printing. And without cost-intensive new purchases or time-consuming retrofitting. REA Elektronik's systems for industrial coding and marking efficiently complement existing printing systems and can be flexibly integrated into existing lines and machines. This modular expansion option opens up the opportunity for online retailers or providers of customer-specific packaging in particular to digitize their processes and reduce costs at the same time.

Customization Suite software for tailor-made print content

The Customization Suite software for the custom-fit development of print content will be on display at the REA booth: The Promotion Module can be used to print database-supported promotion or gaming codes; the Numbering Module was developed for demanding numbering tasks and enables individual counter printing across multiple benefits. The modular software modules enable precise management of the content and codes to be printed. Depending on their requirements, users can select the right software package for their own tailor-made solution, react agilely and effectively to changes and optimize their production.

Visitors to Labelexpo can follow the application of REA solutions in label printing live on site. On a platform, a REA JET UP in combination with the Customization Suite will present content of various benefits - both with the Promotion Module and the Numbering Tool. A "turnkey" combination of the REA JET HR 2.0 or REA JET UP printing systems with the Customization Suite and a camera to create an integrated system is also possible. This is because the industry is increasingly asking for concepts for applying and reading codes and using the data for audits. This is also an example of how users do not have to change when switching between different REA JET Systems: All coding and marking systems are operated with the REA JET TITAN software. The REA JET Universal Controller or the REA JET Touch Controller with touch display are available for input.

Another possible combination of REA systems for demanding tasks is shown by another setup at the REA booth: Two REA JET HR printing systems apply label content to the front and backside with the Promotion Module. The print images are verified with a camera or a system from REA Verifier. The marking of the front and backside of self-adhesive labels is increasingly being used in the pharmaceutical and luxury goods industries. The label is "married" to the associated product and its serial number via the unique numbering of the label.

The REA Verifier with integrated turntable for manual inspection of 1D and 2D Codes in accordance with international standards is another trade show highlight. It enables fast and standard-compliant quality assurance directly in the production environment - even for the smallest batch sizes or complex packaging designs.

Print and apply systems for individual label printing

Labeling technology from REA LABEL supports industrial labeling tasks with maximum speed and variable layouts - including professional software solutions for label printing. Standard programs from Loftware NiceLabel and Codesoft from Teklynx form the basis and can be flexibly adapted to individual customer requirements. On display at Labelexpo: the REA LABEL ColorJet 2 color label printer for use in production, logistics and automation. In high-quality 1:1 full color printing, it creates and applies individual labels or series of small and medium quantities in the highest resolution of up to 1,200 dpi and with a print width of up to 21 centimeters. This makes it a cost-effective and practical alternative to external printers.
